Instructional Design and Training Manager


The UCLA Semel Institute Division of Population Behavioral Health provides workforce development, training, coaching, and consultation for providers in Los Angeles County focused on addressing the challenges of adults, children, and families at high-risk for mental health problems due to adversity, trauma, and loss.
The incumbent reports to the project director and manages the design and production of high quality, trauma-informed training curricula and support materials including training videos, slides, manuals, protocols, and handouts. The incumbent identifies and manages subject matter experts and vendors, and builds relationships with potential partner organizations and stakeholders. The ability to supervise landscape and needs analyses, supervise the production and management of online learning content and systems, and ongoing evaluation and reporting efforts are essential. The incumbent will also supervise several other members of the training team, including the curriculum developers and trainers.


Doctoral degree in a mental health related field (PsyD, PhD, EdD) or equivalent preferred
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Demonstrated skill in developing delivering culturally humble and trauma-sensitive training curricula and materials.
Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Demonstrated skill in managing professional and support staff.
Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and practices to include: multiple learning modalities, interactive training and learning design, on-line/e-learning design principles, distance learning, instructor-led training, self-paced instruction, and evaluation methods.
Demonstrated ability to provide training to mental health professionals, educators, and medical providers.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, and willingness to learn new computer-based systems for worksite management.
Knowledge of manualized psycho-educational training programs and evidence-based interventions.
Knowledge of the impact of trauma on human behavior and strategies to reduce its negative effects.
Knowledge of online learning management systems.
Knowledge of Los Angeles Department of Mental Health and other LA County systems.
Ability to communicate complex information to people with varying levels of education and training and different learning styles.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to apply literacy and cultural filters to curricula and training materials to promote uptake and retention of training content.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid California drivers license, auto insurance, and access to an automobile.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
