Nurse Practitioner - General Surgery Service

Job Description:
Responsibilities Serving as a member of the medical care management team, provides inpatient and outpatient advanced nursing care across the continuum of acute care services to patients who are hospitalized on the General Surgery Service.
Act as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, and physicians to provide effective and consistent patient care.
Coordinate patient admissions.
Perform daily rounds on all General Surgery Service inpatients, chart orders, and coordinate consultants.
Perform and document comprehensive history and physical examinations on all inpatients.
Accurately interpret all diagnostic data and formulate a plan of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team.
Provide appropriate pharmacological management, independent follow-up care, assessment and problem solving.
Provide patient education for disease process, pre/post-operative procedures and outcomes.
Dictate consultation notes, discharge summaries, and letters re patient care.
Screen telephone calls from patients and families regarding care.
Participate in lectures, grand rounds, conferences, and workshops.
Assist with the development of research protocols, investigations, and clinical trials.
Provide administrative support for physicians, assist in the development of critical care pathways and protocols.
Development and implementation of progressive information technology alternatives in the inpatient setting.
Participate in daily multidisciplinary care rounds.
Qualifications Graduate from a MSN program for Nurse Practitioner.
Acute Care NP specialty required.
CA RN and NP license required.
2 years or greater of general surgery patients, pre/post-operative management as an RN and or NP.
1 year of NP experience required.
Knowledge of surgical anatomy and physiology.
Skill in physical assessment and nursing care of general surgery patients.
Skill in teaching.
Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform patient history and physical assessment.
Skill and ability in written and verbal communication.
Knowledge of interdisciplinary resources needed to coordinate patient care and facilitate referral.
Skill in removal of chest tubes, and sutures/staples, central lines, and repair of simple lacerations.
Knowledge and skill in BCLS and ACLS.
Knowledge and skill in wound care and treatment.
Skill in organizing and prioritizing.
Ability to ready, interpret, apply, and or follow physician orders, policies, procedures, and written/verbal instructions.
Knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
