Privacy Manager

Job Description:
Responsibilities Under direction of the Chief Privacy Officer, the Privacy Manager will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and direction of a comprehensive privacy program at UCLA Health Sciences in accordance with federal (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.
), CA state requirements and UCLA Health Sciences polices.
This position will administer the daily operations of the privacy program to include: policy maintenance and development; monitoring of privacy activities (auditing, risk assessments, and walk-throughs); and management of privacy incidents.
The position will report to the Chief Privacy and will: Assist in coordination and collaboration on privacy matters/investigations related to UCLA Health Sciences, UCLA Campus, UC and external parties.
Assist with the design and direction of the privacy programDirect and implement privacy related projects, including privacy reviews, education, monitoring, auditing, detection, response and prevention.
Serve as a consultant to business owners on privacy related matters including but not limited to: Business Associate Agreements, breach mitigation, etc.
Manage daily operations of the privacy function and leadership of the privacy staffPrioritize to manage investigations and mandatory reporting for privacy matters.
Participate in incident response management and breach notification as necessary.
Management of Privacy TeamSupervises, mentors, and serves as role model for staff.
Sets and monitors individual goals/measurable to meet annual work planDevelop and educate staff on internal/external processes as applicable to perform their job duties.
Encourage cooperation, teamwork and facilitate constructive conflict resolution.
Plan, prioritize and use effective time management.
Assure the development, documentation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for internal privacy processes.
Interviews and hires qualified staff and conducts annual performance evaluations.
Manages staff disciplinary actions, department goals and budget.
? Privacy Policies and ProceduresCollaborates with the Chief Privacy Officer, Chief Compliance Security Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, IT, business owners and Legal, to revise and update Health Sciences privacy policies, standards and procedures.
Create and oversee implementation of new policies as necessary ? Privacy OversightMaintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy and security laws and accreditation standards, and communicate changes to appropriate business units to assure organizational adaptation and compliance.
Serve as a consultant for the Health Sciences for any questions on policies, procedures, regulations, and laws relating to Privacy.
Advise IT and business owners in defining information security and privacy compliance requirements for projects, applications, and purchases not only for acquisition but also for implementation.
Review contracts, IRB applications and other documents as requested for Information Security and other Compliance concerns.
Develop processes for authorization for access/use of Restricted Information with Privacy Office, Information Services and business owners.
Serve as an approver when so designated.
Support the Privacy team with advice on technical issues.
Prepare reports for UCLA Health Sciences Compliance committees and the Executive Compliance Oversight Board on the status of the Information Security compliance program ? Training and EducationDirect, deliver, or ensure delivery of privacy education and orientation to all appropriate University workforce members and appropriate third parties as necessaryInitiate, facilitate, and promote activities to foster privacy awareness within UCLA Health Sciences and related entities.
? Monitoring and AuditingWith the Chief Privacy Officer, provide oversight and consultation for privacy reviews.
Assists in initial and periodic privacy assessments and conduct related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with UCLA Audit & Advisory Services & other functions.
Direct, perform and document ongoing privacy assessments/reviews for specific issues/areas.
Work with departments and IT groups to identify privacy gaps and risks.
Assess current privacy measures.
Determine likelihood of threat occurrence and impact.
Perform privacy reviews in cooperation with business units to verify compliance with security requirements and policies and verify remediation status.
Work with Information Services and Information Security to develop monitoring and assessment methodologies such as network scanning, log monitoring and web application vulnerability testing.
? Response and PreventionCooperate with the Office for Civil Rights, other legal entities, and UCLA Health Sciences Officers in any compliance reviews or investigations.
Participate on the Privacy Incident Response team.
Serve as a resource on incident response and privacy breach issues.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
